What to expect
The LifeDrive Update 2.0 will change the permanent (ROM)
software in your mobile manager. Please set aside at
least 20 minutes to complete the update process.
Caution: This update
will erase all data in Program Memory. Read the instructions in the
installer carefully. They are the key to backing up and restoring your
personal data.
After the update is complete, you will restore your data to
your device from these backups. However, some third-party applications
change the way your device backs up data. Other third-party
applications do not back up data. If you have third-party software on
your device, please contact the developer to learn what components are
backed up during a HotSync operation, and if HotSync conduits are
altered. Any data not backed up will be lost.
This update does not erase the contents of your
Internal Drive (pictures, music and documents) or an inserted expansion
card.

LifeDrive.

Important:
Although you may be tempted to use Drive Mode to transfer these files
to your device's Internal Drive or an expansion card - DO NOT. The installer was designed
to be transferred via HotSync operation only. Read on.
- Launch Palm Desktop on your Macintosh. From the
HotSync
menu, select Install Handheld Files.
- In the Install Handheld Files window, make sure the correct
username (TempDelete) is
selected in the User: menu.
- Drag and drop all the 36 files above into this
window.
Do not change the destination to LifeDrive or Secure Digital (SD)
Card, keep it as Handheld.
- Perform a HotSync operation. This will back up your user
data and transfer the installer to your device
- The update will begin automatically. Do not disconnect the
charging cable
during the update process.
Note: During the update
process, your device may reset several times. This is normal. If
your device takes more than 30 seconds to turn back on, or will not
power on, perform a soft
reset.
- When the update is complete, your device will display a
series of targets to calibrate the touchscreen. Do this, then set the
time and date on your device. Then select Done.
Restore Data
- Perform a HotSync operation. Important:
When asked for your username, select the same username that you
looked up earlier. The backed up personal data and applications will be
restored to your device.
- If you have paired Bluetooth wireless devices, you will
need to re-pair those devices now. The secure pairing files are not
backed up or restored with synchronisation.
- Now you can delete the temporary username you created
above. Never synchronise to the new username after performing
the update, or the updater will be re-installed on your device and it
will loop through the update whenever you synchronise. To delete the
temporary username:
- On your Macintosh, launch Palm Desktop.
- From the HotSync menu, select User, then Edit Users.
- Click on the new username you created above (such as
"TempDelete").
- Click on Delete. When asked to confirm, select Delete.
