Palm
Desktop 4.1.4
The PC complement of the Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, Memos
and other items on your Palm device. |
When you perform a HotSync operation, your
device synchronises its information with Palm Desktop on
your PC, so that you have an updated copy of your information
in each place. You can use Palm Desktop on your PC to view,
sort, find, edit, back up, and add applications to your
device. When you synchronise, the changes will be updated
on your device.
If you synchronise with Microsoft Outlook, see "Palm
Outlook Conduits" below. |
|
| |
 |
| |
HotSync
Manager 6.0.1
controls synchronisation between your Palm device and your
PC. |
With HotSync Manager, you can
specify conduit action and other synchronisation preferences,
and add new applications to your device with the Install
Tool. |
|
| |
 |
| |
Palm
Outlook Conduits
Let you synchronise with Microsoft Outlook,
if desired |
Some Palm devices use Palm Outlook
Conduits to sync with Outlook; others use Chapura's PocketMirror
software.
The downloadable version of Palm Desktop 4.1.4E includes
the Palm Outlook Conduits.
If you previously used PocketMirror, it will be uninstalled
and the Palm Outlook Conduits will replace it.
When installing Palm Desktop and HotSync Manager, be sure
to select Microsoft Outlook as the program with which you
want to synchronise; otherwise, you will synchronise with
Palm Desktop.
Some versions of VersaMail include Exchange ActiveSync
(EAS) for Outlook Calendar and Mail. If you set up an EAS
account, the Calendar conduit will be disabled; Calendar
items will be synchronised through EAS only, not through
HotSync. |
|
| |
 |
| |
VersaMail
3.0 Conduit
Synchronises email with PC email client |
Some Palm devices include VersaMail
3.0, which lets you synchronise your e-mail wirelessly via
WiFi or Bluetooth access point. In addition, you can synchronise
with your desktop e-mail client when you perform a HotSync
operation; the VersaMail 3.0 Conduit is for these HotSync
operations.
The VersaMail conduit is for e-mail synchronisation only.
If you use EAS, as described above, remember that the VersaMail
Conduit does not control Calendar synchronisation; Calendar
synchronisation will be disabled in HotSync regardless of
the VersaMail Conduit setting. |
This software
is for Windows XP (Home or Professional) and Windows 2000
only. The following versions are not supported

you do not use this desktop version with devices not listed
unless instructed to do so by a Palm technical support agent.
There are no new Palm Desktop features in this version.
This version of Palm Desktop is intended for handhelds which
use the extended PIM and which use the Palm Outlook Conduits.
The media conduit for images and video is also included

Release Notes
- Was there a version 4.2? This download (4.1.4E) corrects
a version number issue with the previous release dated August
2005 which, in some places, incorrectly stated it was version
4.2. The "About" screen has always displayed version
4.1.4. If you installed the version labeled 4.2, there is no
need to install 4.1.4E.
- Quick Install: Palm Quick Install requires your device
to be running Palm OS® 4.0 or later
- Using a device not listed above? As we mention above,
we do not recommend you use this version of Palm Desktop unless
your device is listed above. The devices listed above have new
extended fields for the built-in Personal Information Management
(PIM) applications. For example, you can store up to three addresses
for a person with the extended PIM fields; on previous devices,
you could store only one address. If you install this version
of Palm Desktop and use a device not listed above, you will
only be able to synchronize with the fields on your Palm device.
In this example, although you can store three addresses for
a person in Palm Desktop, only the first address will be synchronized
with your older device. The extended PIM fields will not synchronise
with the older device.
Examples of extended fields not available on all devices (these
may appear in Palm Desktop but will not synchronise with older
devices):
- Contacts (Address Book): Picture, Birthday, IM
address, Website, more than one address.
- Calendar (Date Book): Location, Category
- Tasks (To Do List): Repeating tasks, completion
date, timed alarms
- Memos (Memo Pad): More than 4,000 characters in
a memo item
- Some included conduits may not work with your device:
Synchronisation between the desktop computer and the Palm device
requires a corresponding application on the Palm device. Not
all applications are supported on all Palm devices. For example,
the Media conduit synchronises photos (and sometimes videos,
depending on your device) with the Media or Photos application
on your handheld. If your older handheld doesn't have a Media
or Photos application, these items will not be synchronized.
- Using multimedia files with expansion cards: Some image
files, video clips and audio files require installation to an
expansion card inserted in your device. Not all Palm device
include expansion capabilities. Expansion card and on-device
applications may need to be purchased separately. Check the
specs on your box for more information.
- What the "E" mean in 4.1.4E? The E stands
for Extended, meaning that this version of Palm Desktop is intended
for use with devices that use extended PIM applications.
