Windows® 2000/XP or Macintosh OS® 10.2.6 to
10.3.x
HotSync® Manager 6.0.1 or greater (Windows), or 3.2.1 (Mac).
This is part of the Palm™ Desktop installation included on your
Tungsten T5 CD-ROM.
Tungsten T5 battery fully charged.
At least 16.7MB/16,700KB free memory on your Tungsten T5
handheld (how to tell how much free memory you have). The
free memory accommodates the update software on your device; the
software will be removed from your device (and the memory freed) when
the update is complete.
Must be installing the update on a computer with which the
Tungsten T5 handheld is synchronised (i.e. a user folder for the
handheld exists on the computer).
Must synchronise with your current username. You may have
several usernames stored on your desktop computer. Make sure you
synchronise with the username on your Tungsten T5 handheld, or you will
appear to lose data.
Caution: Performing
this update will erase all data on your Tungsten T5 handheld and revert
it to a factory state (both Program Memory and Internal Drive). Follow
the directions below to back up the information in your handheld's
Program Memory and Internal Drive. After the update is complete, you
will restore your data to your handheld from these backups.
Some third-party applications change the way your handheld backs up
data. Other third-party applications do not back up data. If you have
third-party software on your device, please contact the developer to
learn what components are backed up during a HotSync operation, and if
HotSync conduits are altered. Any data not backed up will be lost.
Before downloading and using the software you have requested, please
read the following. Using the software indicates that you agree to the
terms set forth below. If you do not agree, please click the "Back" button on your web
browser to return to the previous page.
Important: Because the contents of the
Internal Drive are not backed up during HotSync, you will need to do
this manually. To find out how to proceed, click here.
During the installation process, make sure your Tungsten T5's
battery is fully charged and that your device is connected to both a
power supply and your computer.
Make sure you have at least 16.7MB/16,700KB free memory on your
device (how).
Change all conduits to 'Synchronise the files' (how). This ensures a current backup of data
normally backed up during a HotSync operation. Perform a HotSync
operation.
Unzip the file you just downloaded, and double-click the file you
have just unzipped Tungsten T5 1.1
Updater.exe.
Follow all instructions in the installation wizard that will
appear. This includes a HotSync operation that will back up your
personal information and transfer the Tungsten T5 Update to your
handheld.
To restore the contents of your Internal Drive: on your PC, open
the File Transfer application. In File Transfer, click "Copy Folder
from PC." Browse the files that were saved from the handheld, and click
Open. Then click Refresh. On your handheld, launch the Files
application to ensure the files have been restored successfully.

Tungsten T5 1.1 Update.prc file. If your web browser does not expand
the file automatically, you will need to use an expansion utility such
as Allume StuffIt
Expander to decompress the file. Note the folder location in which
the decompressed file is saved.

Alternate
instructions. What is
special about this alternate method? The Tungsten T5 Update v1.1
requires at least 16.7MB of free memory on your handheld in order to be
installed. If your handheld is nearly full, you may not be able to
delete enough applications and data to make room for the updater.
Instead, we will show you how to back up your handheld, erase
everything in memory, install the updater under a new username, and
restore your data under the old username.
Perform a HotSync operation to back up your data. Make sure your
conduits are set to "Synchronize the files" (how) and then perform a HotSync operation.
